Garbage Dumped

By David Wiwchar PORT ALBERNI — As predicted by many, the switch to bi-weekly garbage pick-up has resulted in a sharp increase in garbage being dumped in the woods.

City resources are now being dispatched to clean up impromptu dumping areas, and they're looking to prosecute.

The city is working with bylaw enforcement to crack down on the number of side-street garbage tosses and says if they see someone tossing trash, or find clues within the garbage, they'll look at pursuing charges.

Public trash cans on city and school district lands are also keeping custodial staff busy, and some people have begun to take their excess or most pungent trash to bear proof school yard and park receptacles.

Funny when you contact the city they claim this is what the "public" wanted?? This is a joke, you try to convince people that Port doesn't stink all the time so they will come and visit or live and then the city comes up with this brilliant plan. I think everyone should just leave there garbage on the curbs and let the city clean up the mess that the bears and raccoons will make over the two week period because I am tired of my garage stinking
Thumbs Up Thumbs Down
