Pulling Together 2011
By David Wiwchar PORT ALBERNI — The local RCMP and area First Nations are pulling together to bring a canoe festival to Port Alberni next year.
RCMP constable Boyd Pearson came before city council on Monday night to pitch Pulling Together 2011, a week-long canoe trip starting in Tofino, and ending in
Port Alberni after visits to several west-coast communities.
The event, usually organized by police departments, is meant to improve relations between First Nations and law enforcement and is held in different areas of the province each year.
Pearson presented Port Alberni Mayor Ken McRae with a ceremonial paddle and thanked him for his support of the project.
