TOFINO — One of B.C.’s best-known actors was supposed to be in town Thursday to shoot a tourism commercial, according to a representative of the District of Tofino.
But an unidentified member of a Toronto-based production company reportedly involved in the shoot was quick to deny any knowledge of the work.
“Tourism BC is shooting a portion of a commercial,” said Sally Mole, director of parks and recreation, in an email to the Westcoaster.ca. “There is an actor – Seth Rogen – and some beach scenes.”
Born in Vancouver in April 1982, Rogen has appeared in a long list of films like Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Superbad, Pineapple Express, and Funny People.
On Thursday evening, the Westcoaster.ca called a Toronto-based production company that was supposed to be behind the shoot.
The company initially denied any knowledge of the shoot.
But when told the Westcoaster.ca knew Rogen was in town for the shoot and could proceed with a story without comment, a company official hung up.
However, the individual hung up before the Westcoaster.ca could get his name.
Meantime, Mole said the municipality also received two public complaints about the filming.
Filming and movie stars are nothing new to Tofino, Ucluelet and the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
Jason Priestley, who gained fame on Beverly Hills 90210 in the 1990s and now holds a long list of movie credits, owns a resort in Ucluelet.
In June 2007, Penelope Cruz and Sir Ben Kingsley shot a scene for Elegy at Cox Bay. About three months later, Joshua Jackson shot One Week in Tofino.
And in March 2009, the Twilight Series’ New Moon shot scenes inside Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
In all the above cases, film crews and members of production companies have given the Westcoaster.ca some sort of interview.
